The UK-China Research and Innovation Workshop on Climate Change and Carbon Neutrality successfully took place in London on November 6, bringing together leading academics from Tsinghua University, UCL, Cambridge, Imperial College London, and Reading University, alongside representatives from research and innovation agencies in both countries. The workshop facilitated in-depth dialogue on advancing bilateral cooperation in carbon neutrality technology and climate science.

Co-organized by UCL Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction and Tsinghua’s Institute for Carbon Neutrality and Department of Earth System Science, the event featured addresses from senior leaders including Tsinghua Vice President Zeng Rong and UCL Vice President Mark Maslin, who jointly launched the Tsinghua-UCL Joint Research Center for Carbon Neutrality.

Keynote speakers covered topics ranging solar energy applications, carbon capture, and energy storage to green chemistry and AI-assisted climate modeling. A roundtable highlighted opportunities for collaboration in climate data sharing, youth exchanges, and joint policy development.

In closing, Professor Maslin emphasized the need for sustained cooperation and stable funding to support future breakthroughs in climate science and energy transition.

The workshop strengthened practical and academic ties between UK and Chinese institutions, supporting global climate goals through shared innovation.
