The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change opened in Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 11. This year’s conference aims to advance the negotiation of a new collective quantified goal on climate finance and achieve a balanced package of outcomes on mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage, and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement regarding global carbon market mechanisms.
Prior to the conference, Professor Teng Fei, Deputy Director of the Center for Climate Governance and Carbon Finance at Tsinghua University’s Institute for Carbon Neutrality and Deputy Director of the Institute of Energy, Environment and Economy, spoke with CGTN in an exclusive interview. He discussed key issues such as climate finance and carbon markets, and emphasized the urgent need for immediate action to address climate change.
