Global climate change is a major challenge facing humanity in the 21st century. A new type of power system that is suitable for China’s national conditions and has a stronger capacity to consume new energy is an urgent task to promote the clean and low-carbon transformation of energy and help achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. With the large-scale development of new energy and its high proportion of grid connection, and gradually becoming the main body of power supply, the system’s power and electricity balance, safety and stability control, etc. will face unprecedented challenges. The new power system puts forward higher requirements for the technological innovation and development of traditional power systems and related fields.

To this end, the Institute for Carbon Neutrality (ICON) and the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University led the writing of the “Technology Outlook on New-type Power System” report. It clarifies the development goals and paths of the new power system under the carbon neutrality goal, points out the technical challenges faced by the construction of the new power system, and analyzes and predicts a series of key core technologies that need to be concentrated on breakthroughs in the future. Centered on this report, the Institute of Carbon Neutrality of Tsinghua University will hold a press conference on the “Technology Outlook on New-type Power System” report at 14:00 on the afternoon of September 13 (Friday). This meeting is also one of the series of meetings of the “Carbon Neutrality Technology Forum” of the ICON, inviting authoritative experts in the industry to jointly explore the construction of a new power system for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, and to criticize and correct the research report.
