Supported by the Institute for Carbon Neutrality and the School of Vehicle and Mobility, the Zero Carbon Transportation Research Center focuses on electrification transportation and new energy revolution. The aim is to break through the cross-scale basic theories and key technologies of new energy power Device-Unit-Systems with high energy, long life, and high reliability. The center will build the trinity of cross-disciplinary system of material, process, and systems sciences oriented to the high-efficiency conversion and safe utilization of new energy. With the wide application of the new energy power technology in the land, sea, and air transportation, the center will continue to lead the development of new energy vehicles and the revolution in new energy technology globally.

Research Area

1. Electrochemical Power battery and energy storage systems: battery thermal runaway and propagation, smart battery and intelligent management, advanced materials and all-solid state battery, power/energy storage battery system and safety.

2. Hydrogen fuel cells and electrolytic green hydrogen systems: proton exchange membrane fuel cells and electrolytic cells, high-temperature solid oxide fuel cells and electrolytic cells, hydrogen production by alkaline water electrolysis, hydrogen storage systems and hydrogen safety, etc.

3. Vehicle to Grid （V2X） and intelligent energy system: super fast charging and battery swapping coupled system; vehicle grid interaction and intelligent energy system; photovoltaic, energy storage, charging and swapping integrated micro-grid system, and so on.

4. Zero-carbon engines and intelligent powertrains: electronically controlled hydrogen-ammonia internal combustion engines and hybrid powertrain control, electric motor drivetrains and distributed drive systems, electric chassis and integrated skateboard chassis.
